The off-season
Spleen-Pancreas and Stomach Season
The shoulder season is a time of transition between seasons. It allows us to return to ourselves, to our centre, to receive and give back the energy of past and future seasons. Its element is Earth, linked to anchoring, to Mother Earth.
This season lasts 3 weeks and is linked to the spleen, pancreas and stomach. These organs produce the nourishing energy known as Qi.
The quality of this energy will depend on the quality of the food, water and air we ingest. This energy is then taken to the lungs, where it is dispersed throughout the body, nourishing the body fluids and all the cells.
This season is essential for concentrating and reworking the way we eat. At this time of year, the main focus is on mealtimes. It needs to be calm, collected and concentrated, and a good atmosphere will ensure good digestion and nourishing energy.
The spleen, which is linked to the Earth, has an upward energy movement that enables it to return a certain amount of energy to Mother Earth. It is responsible for capturing and redistributing the purest part of food, its very essence. The spleen also governs body moisture.
The mild, sweet flavour is a good stimulant for the spleen and pancreas. Note that we are talking about sweetness, not refined sugar.
