Winter

Kidney and Bladder Season

Winter is the season when the cold sets in, when it's important to keep warm and protect yourself from the cold.

It's a time of rest, of hibernation in a way, so conserving your energy is good for the spring that follows.

This season is linked to the element Water, it is the height of Yin, the nights are long. In nature, everything is at rest, the sap has flowed back, the leaves have fallen and the trees are bare.

Like nature, we have to accept this slowdown and avoid any deviations, as this would make spring more difficult.

In winter, the energies linked to the kidneys and bladder are mobilised. The kidneys house the Jing, the innate energy that diminishes throughout our lives, like a candle.

The kidneys and bladder control emotions (cystitis: fear, shock; adrenals: stress).

Regularity is essential to preserve the energy of the kidneys, by respecting the rules of hygiene and diet.

Kidney and bladder energy balances and imbalances

A person with balanced kidney and bladder energy will be strong-willed, meticulous, precise and a good listener.

If the Kidneys have too much energy, they will be strongly mobilised, leading to severity, rigidity and authoritarianism. A lack of energy, on the other hand, brings anxiety, fear, restlessness and weakness.

Power supply

In winter, to keep our bodies warm, it's important to drink warm, even water should be warm. This is THE time for soups and broths.

The salty flavour stimulates the kidneys and retains heat, so root vegetables are a good choice. Good cereals in winter are oats and buckwheat.

Seaweed is an excellent ally for the kidneys, which react very quickly to changes in food.
