You surely know that swarms of bees sometimes come to live in old stumps. At the end of the 19th century, a merchant from Rosporden had the idea of giving his mead the commercial name of Souchen (Souchenn, in Breton, means stump).

The word Mez, which designated mead in the Breton language, was replaced by the name Chouchen.
